Just wanted to let you guys know that I’m heading out to Washington D.C. tomorrow and I will be out until Tuesday of next week. My schedule is packed and I am planning to meet some friends and relatives this weekend, in addition to trying to photograph some scenery there. By the way, if you have any good locations in mind, please let me know, since I have no idea where to start :) I have been to D.C. multiple times in the past, but it was before I got into photography. I’m primarily looking for good landscape and architectural points of interest, but if you know some good birding locations in winter, I would love to check out the best one as well.
As for blogging, I don’t think I will have time to write from there, but I might do some quick posts in the evenings.

I’d say this guy has pretty much the money spots. I lived in DC for some time. My favorite were always the Lincoln Memorial at night, the Capitol and the Potomac in Georgetown. Ah, the Watergate is also nice.
Dima, thanks a lot for the link, the pictures are amazing! I’m definitely thinking about Capitol at night. Will definitely need to take my tripod with me :)
How about National Parks around the area? Are any of those worth checking out?
Yes. Go to Great Falls. Either on the VA side or MD, doesn’t matter – both good. Lots of nice places there. Gunston Hall is nice, also you can go to Mount Vernon – GWashington’s house on the Potomac. Also you can go to East Potomac Park – nice views of the river and the Reagan Airport. Here it is:

Awesome, thank you for the information!!! Great Falls is so far the top pick and I’m hoping to get there before sunrise and spend the rest of the day at the park.
Really? I think that might be an overkill. Whole day :)
Is it pretty small? I wonder if the water is frozen at this time of the year…

I also love this statue. It’s on Constitution and 22nd, I think
Nice, I will have to check it out as well. Judging from the photo, the lighting conditions are probably not very favorable at night…
Well, I was going to suggest Great Falls, just sent you an email before reading the comments. Another idea other than the usual DC monuments is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Temple (Mormon) it is beautiful as well. Enjoy the sights.
