A fully charged battery never lasted more than 30 minutes. The microphone never worked properly, and the screen colors were washed out , and hd dvd player may as well have been a 1950 black and white tv. I took it to best buy where i had "geek squad" protection. They said it was sony's problem and shipped it off Jan. 19th. .......i'm still waiting to get it back on February 15th.........Best buy says we're waiting on sony to get parts. Anybody heard anything about sony not being able to pay vendors for parts?

my sony vaio purchased 10-2-2010 quit charging the battery unless the cord was held in a certain position January 2011. Mine, all of a sudden for no reason, just froze. After pressing control alt delete the screen went black and nothing happened. After waiting for several minutes, I elected to manually turn off the power and restart it. This does not work, so I go to (as suggested by the inbreds at sony) so 'system restore'.After taking about 30 minutes to load, I select the 'restore from certain point' option-basically a solution which resolves the problembut won't destroy all of my installed programs, files etc. What a surprise, this does not work. When I click on this option it attempts to take me to the next page but only lasts for a brief frame before glitching out and reverting back to the previous page. WTF, not only does their laptop fuck up, but their software to fix problems is SO INCOMPETENT THAT EVEN IT DOES WORK.Anyway, I finally succemb to the total reboot option offered by sony. This basically kills all my hard earned work and reverts it to the 'factory stage'-i.e. the situation its in right when you buy it. This works for awhile, but at about the 68 percent mark, while installing some adobe shit it says ERROR WE FUCKED UP. The system force restarts. Then, oh joy, it attempts another installation. This is followed by a prompt saying 'we need to check one of your drives for fuck ups'. It does this, and I get a message saying its fixed some shit. Good, not so. After this, I boot it up at it attempts to do some installation shit (I have no idea what now????). Long story short, every time it starts up (I assume to complete the rest of the restore process) I get a prompt saying error now restarting system AGAIN to complete the installation. Restarts same deal, the system just goes on a loop of boot up, error, restart, error etc.In other words, not only is Sony a total FUCK UP PIECE OF SHIT, but their support software doesn't help with the problem, it just makes it worse.I am doubtful nothing short of Jimmy fucking Neutron can fix this, but does anyone have any idea what to do/how to maybe fix the issue? If so you are a god, otherwise I will be taking the laptop in soon and demanding a replacement.Goodbye Sony, hello Mac.

Sony Vaios are horrendous pieces of technology. I can't even google answers to the strange things that were occuring on my laptop. The issues started at about 4 months after purchase. This laptop is gently used and has never had any spills or drops and since it's for my business, others don't use it.Has anyone experienced any of the following: number keys spontaneously repeating (9's mainly); all desktop icons opening only the recyle bin (task bar icons work tho); mouse pad will move curser, but no response to right click or double tap to open/close/resize programs & screen; number key pad inserts lots of 9's when working on that; Windows Boot Manager always comes up on start up; slow or no recovery from sleep or hibernation modes; generally sluggish computer; blank screen instead of desk top on start up; curser jumps around when I type. I think there's more, but you see what a piece this is. The one thing that will solve the above temporarily is to flick my fingers up the number keys above qwerty. This seems to bring it back to a somewhat normal running mode, but it may not last. If I pause for too long, I will hear a distinct "ping" and it reverts back to the above problems. Repeated 9's could be a sticky key, but really, this is practically a new machine and a well cared for one at that.I've had numerous dealings with Sony's tech help and I've worked with them for literally hours to rectify these problems, with no success. Now I have the courier box (coffin) to send it to Sony's depot for "fixing". I'm worried. I don't know if they will nuke everything and the thought of setting up my system again makes me ill. I'm going to need help - it will cost me time and money. A computer guy in my office didn't think they would need to access my stored data in order to fix this as he felt it was a defect in the keyboard chip (or something like that). I hope this is the case. This is my second Sony product going out for repair recently. I thought Sony had a good name, but although I've had no issues with dealing with them, I'm still not happy with the problem, that it even occured in the first place. It will be the last Sony product I buy. I loved my Toshiba Satellite Laptop with the Windows XP.If Sony sends this back, less my data, then I reinsert all of my programs and info - then it happens again, I will take a sledgehammer to it. It will be well worth the $699.00 plus taxes!

I haven’t had much success with my Sony Vaio purchased in April 2010. The paint wears off the the left and right mouse click as well as the deck where you rest our hands (in months of normal business use). I have spent hours trying to resurrect the issue based on nothing more than principle. Sony claims that this is not covered under warranty when it is a blatant defect. There are many threads about users with this issue. After jumping through hoops to get to North American customer service after literally 3 hours, the supervisor was pathetic. I had recommended a solution 15 minutes into the conversation by simply sending images for their review. After 3 hours and finally reaching "Cathy", I mentioned the idea to her and she agreed. I asked why it took so long to convey this from the outset of the first 3 customer service agents i spoke to and she replied that is was basically protocol--in other words if a customer is crazy enough to stay on the phone as long as I did, they will escalate the call to North American support after a certain threshold of time is hit. IN OTHER WORDS, they hope the customer gives up and walks away so they can avoid helping you. A complete JOKE! Sony is creating detractors rather than promoters- they want users to be unhappy, walk around with terrible looking computers that simple send a message to other on lookers in meetings etc. These computers are not cheap nor are the extended warranties----I ended up learning that the extended warranty I bought at the time of purchase from Sony.com is a third party warranty after the first year which added little extra icing on the cake. I will never buy a computer from Sony again and I will do my best to detract from any possible sale. Another multi national corporation striping the soul from the consumer. Never again.

Hello

I have now experienced a purchase of 4 Vaio computers for work.
