Eastern Meadowlark

It took me a while to sit and wait in the car in Florida to get a good shot of this bird. The Western Meadowlark is pretty easy to spot and photograph here in Colorado – I can often get pretty close to them without scaring them away.

St. Augustine – Old Car

While walking the main streets of St. Augustine after visiting the Alligator Farm, I came across this old car parked on the street:

Great White Egret in Flight

I have just finished reviewing images from my recent trip to Orlando and I will be posting some images of birds tomorrow. I figured it is a good time to do it now, since I will be heading back to Orlando next week again. Here is one of my favorite shots:

Great White Egret in Flight

This above image was shot with the Nikon D3s + Nikon 300mm f/4.0 AF-S lens with a Nikon 1.4x TC @ 420mm. To freeze the bird in flight, I had to use a shutter speed of 1/1600 of a second at f/5.6 aperture (wide open with the 1.4x TC). ISO was set to “Auto ISO” with minimum shutter speed set to 1/1600 and maximum ISO set to 6400 and I shot in Aperture Priority mode. As for metering, I used spot metering – my normal metering mode when shooting birds.

Sunset

Too bad the kite surfer got mixed up with the black horizon – otherwise it would have been an OK picture.

Sunset

I waited for the kite surfer to jump up, but he never did and it seemed like he spent more time in the water, trying to get back on. The sunset though, was beautiful!

Shot with Nikon D700 and Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8G lens.

Florida Sunset

While going through some of the pictures I took in 2009, I found this one:

Florida Sunset

I remembered how I took it. I was driving back from a bird watching trip and saw this beautiful sunset. I knew that I didn’t have any time left, so as soon as I saw an open area, I jumped out of the car and ran towards the ocean. I looked for interesting objects around me, but couldn’t find anything. So I just snapped a few pictures and went back into the car. It’s not a good photo by any means, but there is something interesting here – the picture was taken in Florida, where the sun sets on the opposite side of the ocean. That’s why there is a thin layer of black in the middle :)

Is there anybody out there?
