Tree and Truck

Not sure which one I like better. The vertical shot has more white flowers in it, while the horizontal one seems to be more balanced?

Some sort of crab

Honestly, I don’t know what this is, but it sure looks like some sort of crab. I captured this bad boy at the Channel Islands National Park during my last trip. Any ideas on what type of crab it is? I tried to search on Google and couldn’t find a darn thing…

Crab

P.S. It turns out to be “Sally Lightfoot”. Thanks to Rich for identifying the crab!

Channel Islands Side-Blotched Lizard

I did not see any island night lizards, but this side-blotched lizard was kind enough to pose for me several times.

Island Fox

As promised, here is the picture of the Island Fox – a critically endangered, federally protected fox species that was reintroduced to the Channel Islands through a breeding program. This little fox is a size of the house cat and is considered to be one of the smallest fox species.

Channel Islands Panorama

If you have a chance to visit South California, definitely check out the Channel Islands National Park! I only had a chance to spend half a day on this beautiful island and the experience was unforgettable. Everything from dolphins and humpback whales to various island creatures, including the critically endangered island fox. I was fortunate enough to see this beautiful fox and I when I spotted her, I was too worried about missing the opportunity (she was running fast) and started shooting without looking at my camera settings first. The sad result – most of the images of the fox came out blurry :( I do, however, have a couple of OK pictures that I will be posting later this week, so stay tuned!

The below shot is a 14 image panoramic stitch of the “Potato Harbor”, which is one of the shorter hikes on the island – about 5 miles round trip. I wish I could have stayed more on the island, because I saw so many different species of birds, plants, lizards and butterflies that I didn’t have time to photograph.

California Backcountry

California has some of the most beautiful backcountry in the United States. I captured the below images on our way back from Yosemite National Park.

Giant Sequoias

Giant Sequoia, also known as Redwood, is the tallest tree in the world. The biggest number of sequoias in the world can be found in Sequoia National Park and King’s Canyon National Park. Ever since I watched Star Wars Episode VI, I have always dreamed of visiting the Redwoods of California. This year my dream finally came true and I had the pleasure of visiting this beautiful place.

Giant Sequoia #1

It is impossible to describe the feeling of standing next to these giant, 2000+ years old trees! They are so massive that it makes you feel like a Lilliput standing by Gulliver…

More photos of the Giant Sequoias tomorrow, so stay tuned!
