Studio photo shoot: Uma and Maslin

My favorite little buddies Uma and her little brother Maslin visited us today for a short photo shoot. We initially planned to have it outside but the cold and shortage of time didn’t make it a flexible choice for us. So, Laura and I decided to have a photo shoot indoors.

Before I go on to write about the photo shoot I just want to tell all of you how delighted I am to know Laura, mommy of Uma and Maslin. She is so sincere and absolutely lovely! Laura, if you are reading this, I want you to know that I am glad that I met you and I am looking forward to many, many photo shoots and play dates with you and your adorable children.

Uma and Maz Studio #1

Knowing how much I love to cook and take pictures of my dishes Laura bought me an amazing book with a lot of citrusy recipes! I can’t wait to get my hands on the book and do my own wonders in the kitchen. Thank you for being such a wonderful person!

Here are a few adorable shots from today. I love these kids! Their expressions are just priceless, for everything else, there is MasterCard :)

Uma and Maz Studio #2

I thought it would be fun if we pulled away from the white background with the splash of color. Fruits and baskets came in handy. I am sure Uma and Mas enjoyed bouncing and biting the fruits :) They are such cooperative precious individuals. I just want to kiss those cheeks up.  Aunty Lola loves you!

    Your pictures are amazing!
Would you be able to share what would be the minimum equipment that is needed and how to set up an indoor studio to photograph children. Thanks so much.

    • Zlata, sorry for a late response!

If you want to photograph kids with flash, then you would need at least the following:
      1) A background (you can use plain white paper or sheets on the wall)
      2) Two external flashes (one to use as a “master” and one as a “slave”).
      3) An umbrella on a light stand for softer light.

I use very similar equipment for corporate portraits and I highly recommend checking out my “how to photograph corporate portraits” article to see the full list of equipment we use.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks.
I was wondering how you got the floor and backround to blend into each other. Somehow when I take a picture there is a noticeable difference.

    • Zlata, the background is one long paper that is rolled and extended from the stand to the floor – that is why you cannot see the divider between the wall and the floor :) Let me know if you need more info about our studio setup, it is very inexpensive!
