Decided to post these while on the subject of iPhone’s camera capabilities and while writing a new article on photo noise reduction. This first image is slightly modified in Lightroom 3 (+20 Fill Light and +10 Saturation, Noise Reduction: +50 Luminance, +80 Detail):
And the second image is a panoramic image stitched from five vertical images, then two graduated filters applied – one from top (-.75 Exposure) and one from the bottom (+1 Exposure, +20 Saturation):
Both were captured with the iPhone 4.

Crazy those photos came from a phone. I also love the new video quality from the IPhone 4G.
Peter, while there are lots of haters of Apple and iPhone out there (I had a couple of people unsubscribe as soon as I posted the above images), I find that the iPhone is not a bad camera when you don’t have a DSLR with you. I would love to have some extra functionality like white balance control and exposure control, but I realize it is asking too much from a tiny device that is already doing so much :)
Thanks for stopping by and dropping a comment!
Very impressive, never thought this would come off the new iphone 4, I have the iphone 3gs here, don’t think its as capable as the new 4.
Cheers,
Sam
Sam, I compared some of my old images from the iPhone 3GS and the 3GS camera was not bad either. Obviously there are more megapixels and better autofocus in iPhone 4, but it is not a world better than the 3GS. Check out my last image from the 3GS that I shot over a month ago: http://mansurovs.com/iphone-panorama
Hi Nasim,
Thanks for 3gs link. I have a question about nikon lens. Currently, I have a d90 with a 50 1.4g and I’m thinking of getting a moderate zoom lens, what would you reckon between nikon 17-55 and 16-85 or other suggestions. Mainly family photo and landscape.
Cheers
Sam
Sam, you are welcome!
The 17-55mm is good, but too steep of a price to pay for a DX lens I think. I would personally go for the 16-85 instead…
