We arrived to Vegas yesterday and I already managed to lose my phone :) Don’t ask how, but I left my phone in a bathroom of Caesar’s Palace and realized that I don’t have it shortly thereafter. When I came back to the bathroom, it obviously wasn’t there. Talked to security and asked if they could look for it in “lost and found” and it was nowhere to be found. Well, I thought that my phone was gone for good. After-all, it’s Vegas and there are all kinds of people here, who would be happy to get the Blackberry Curve2. I tried calling my phone at least 5-6 times and my voicemail wasn’t there anymore and I already knew that something fishy was going on. Anyway, after trying a few times over a period of 30-45 minutes, a guy finally picked up the phone. Apparently, he took the phone to his house and decided to hold on to it until the next day and he would then give me a call. Yeah right! And he deleted my voicemail?
What I think really happened, is he simply took the battery out and put it back in to see what happens. Next thing he knows, my GPS tracker is turned on, showing the GPS coordinates of the phone. He instantly panics and thinks “darn, they know where this phone is” and decides to give the phone back to the owner. When he picked up and I was arranging for pickup, he actually was stupid enough to ask if I could just get to his place using the GPS coordinates of the phone! And when I was picking it up, he stated that he called the “emergency” contact on the phone, which he only did AFTER he talked to me (according to phone logs).
Lesson learned: install GPS tracking software on your Blackberry and keep it on, even if it eats up your battery :)
