I had a hard time picking my favorites and I’m sure I didn’t do a good job, but anyway – here are the non-raptor bird pics that I liked from 2009:

1) Tricolored Heron 1920×1200 Widescreen Wallpaper

2) Mallard 1920×1200 Widescreen Wallpaper

3) Great-crested Flycatcher 1920×1200 Widescreen Wallpaper

4) Great Blue Heron 1920×1200 Widescreen Wallpaper

5) Caspian Tern with Fish 1920×1200 Widescreen Wallpaper

6) Brown Pelican 1920×1200 Widescreen Wallpaper

7) Black Skimmer 1920×1200 Widescreen Wallpaper

8) Pacific-slope Flycatcher triptych 1920×990 Widescreen Wallpaper

Great photos and thank you for the tips.
Tom, I’m sure I have a lot more to share! :) Thanks for taking us to see owl!

Hi Nasim,
These pictures (as well as others on this web site) are stunning! How do you typically shoot these – hand-held or with a tripod? What aperture setting do you use or doesn’t that matter so much when shooting from a distance? It would be interesting to understand some of the technical details behind these wonderful pictures. I’m looking forward to the weather warming up here in a couple of months to shoot some birds as they return with my new camera.
Thanks,
Prem
Prem, thank you! Most of my shots are hand-held and I shared my techniques for bird photography in the article “how to photograph birds” that I wrote a while ago.
Please let me know if you have any questions :)
Perfect! Thank you so much for sharing.
Prem, you are most welcome!!!
